Chancellor and chairman of the University of Technology Council Sir Nagora Bogan says the only way to defuse the crisis caused by students presently is to bring back Dr Albert Schram.

He told PNG Edge that the interim council is standing by its decision to reinstate Dr Schram as the vice chancellor and it is critical now that the government fast tracks his visa application.

“I have urged the students to go back to classes and to let government process take its course but they refuse to listen,” he says.

Sir Nagora says students are only asking for Schram’s return and if a proper response is given all the protests will stop.

He says to date he has not received any brief on the progress of the processing of Dr Schram’s work visa.

“I have told the students that the consequence of boycotting classes will be suffered by them and they should not prolong the protests,” he says.

Sir Nagora has refuted claims that the meeting held with the Higher Education Minister was in secret and that student leaders were invited to attend the meeting as well.
