UNITECH Inquiry report presented to PM - EM TV
The final Commission of Inquiry report into the University of Technology was handed over to Prime Minister Peter O’Neill yesterday.
The six member team of investigators looked sharp in black at PM’s conference room at parliament house yesterday.
Lead investigator Mark Sevua outlined to the PM that the investigation did not solely focus on UNITECH. A comparative analysis was done to get a better grasp as to why many state institutions were not performing to expectations.
That involved interviews with private run institutions like Divine Word University and the Pacific Adventist University that have a high success rate.
The main recommendation was for better administration in Governance and Management.
The inquirers were given only two month to execute the report. A time frame they believe was not adequate.
They also commented that they basically perform the same function as judges but the difference was witnesses were not subjected to oath.
O’Neill said their role was to get to the truth and commended them for completing the report despite the tight time frame.
He agreed there was a need to rebuild state institutions and said the report will be put to cabinet and fully implemented.
